Addiction is a sinister phenomenon. An addiction will motivate the ideas you have , the thoughts you think, and the actions you take. Take soda for example. Soda is engineered to be literally addictive. That feeling of thirst you get when you think of grabbing a glass of cola. Your body is preparing to release dopamine. Imagine you ignore that feeling. Sometimes, it feels painful to do something like that. To ignore a feeling of desire. To ignore the addiction. It’s really an odd phenomena. Before you taste a soda, you will not be motivated to drink one for you have yet to experience it. Once you’ve tasted a soda, you now must make an effort to reject the next notion of drinking one. Odds are, you will now forever crave one. Before you tasted it, it required no more effort to drink a soda than it did to not drink one. Though now, it requires more effort to will yourself not to drink one than it does to. The pain you feel while rejecting some desire. It’s almost as if that first time you participated, you let a parasite into your body. it’s one that will stay with you for life. This type is especially sinister.
This is the harm an addiction will do to you. It makes the effort to enact a willful action harder depending on how much it has gripped you. And you will continue this battle until the day you cease to experience. No matter how strong your will, this demon will continue to pester and insist you to indulge once again and again and again. A strong will cannot stop them from asking you to partake, it can only make the decision not to. Sweetness grips you the moment you taste its heavenly kiss. Once you try it, you cannot abandon it. Your soul surrenders the moment it arrives to your system and travels through your synapses.
